Steve Jobs on focus

I am sort of obsessed with focus. Our long time advisor Bill Mann once said, ‘gentlemen, there’s a four letter word in business: “focus”‘.

Much of my time here at FreshBooks is spent thinking about what opportunities not to pursue, instead thinking about the onces we can do. So when I came across this quote by Steve Jobs in the March 17th edition of Fortune, I thought I’d share:

People think focus means saying yes to the thing you’ve got to focus on. But that’s not what it means at all. It means saying no to the 100 other good ideas that there are. You have to pick carefully. I’m actually as proud of many of the things we haven’t done as the things we have done.

Amen brother.
