Link love: Conferences, BarCamp and RoadBurn (oh my!)

It’s a particularly active time in the tech community right now, and we’re finding ourselves in the middle of all kinds of fantastic happenings.

Here are a few events that are definitely worth checking out.

Toronto hosts Social Tech Training

Sarah Pullman, social change guru and FreshBooks customer, is one of the faces behind Social Tech Training, a great new event hitting Toronto June 22–24.

We’ve gathered the best and the brightest leaders in [social change], and we’ve put together an agenda that will help take your organization to the next level. Each participant will emerge with new technical, creative, and leadership skills, a powerful network, and a customized, comprehensive “Web 2.0 Plan” for their organization.

Small Business Marketing Unleashed hits Houston

If you’re a small business owner or an old-school marketer, Small Business Marketing Unleashed will get you up to speed with online marketing on today’s Web. The inaugural conference comes our way in Houston April 21–22, 2008, and is hosted by FreshBooks customer Jennifer Laycock.

While the Small Business Marketing Unleashed Conference is specifically designed for small businesses, it will also serve as a great primer for mainstream marketers and public relations execs who are trying to gain an understanding of topics like search engine marketing, viral marketing, blogging and local search.

Check out your local BarCamp

Ahh, BarCamp. It’s sort of like a conference… except it’s not insanely expensive, inanely corporate, and innately boring, like most conferences. In fact, if you attend BarCamp you’re not only allowed to contribute, it’s pretty much expected that you will.

You’ll see presentations and panels aplenty, and throughout the event discourse is encouraged, ideas are shared and creativity is fostered. And it’s a great crowd.

If you’re actively involved in your local Web community, you should really be going to your local BarCamp. Here are a few of note:

Check out BarCamp’s Web site to find — or organize! — an event in your area.

Are you following RoadBurn 2008?

Finally, be sure to check out FreshBooks RoadBurn for the latest video updates from Mike, Saul and Sunir as they journey across the southern United States.

Since kicking off the trip on Friday, our travellers have already posted five videos for your enjoyment, the most recent being Saul’s fulfilment of a life-long dream: a tour of the Burt Reynolds museum. Check it out, and subscribe to e-mail updates or the RSS feed to keep tabs on this most excellent adventure, which concludes next Tuesday.

Yee-haw!
