I am interested in taking the bookkeeper exam without a background in bookkeeping – would I get hired?

1

I have a Masters in Education but no background in bookkeeping. I am seeking a quick career change. I was interested in studying for the bookkeeping exam (my husband is an accountant) and then passing the exam. My question is: would a company hire me based on the fact that I’ve passed the exam?

Unfortunately, I cannot get a certification until I’ve worked as a bookkeeper. So I need a job that will take me without the certification. Are jobs open to that?

I’m not sure there is such a thing as “THE” bookkeeper exam. There is the CPA Exam but that requires the euivalent education of a Masters Degree with a certain number of accounting courses (when I took it they required 13 accounting courses).

Different companies would have different requirements to be a bookkeeper – I would check some job openings out online. Some would probably hire you and train on the job – altho Im not sure about right now, in this economy.
